Frequently Asked Questions

What is sleep training?

To put it simply, sleep training is just guiding your baby or toddler to learn how to fall asleep and also stay asleep independently. The number one question regarding sleep training is "Is this just a cry it out method"? Thanks to social media, that is the biggest misconception out there. "Cry it out" is one method that some parents choose to follow, but it is far from the only method. It is not one that I initially would choose, but I will if that is what the parents are comfortable with and want to try.

Is my baby going to cry while sleep training?

Going back to the first question, we are not going to just leave your baby alone to cry and figure this out on their own. We are going to be giving your child the power to teach themselves how to fall asleep independently. However, this will not be what they are used to and because it is not familiar to them, more than likely there will be crying involved. This does not mean your baby is in any pain or distress...it is simply their way of telling you that this is unfamiliar to them. Over time and with consistent and positive guidance, those cries will become less until they are non existent!

Won't sleep training hurt my bond with my baby?

This is a BIG NO! I understand the fear that new parents have when thinking about sleep training and missing that bonding time with your baby. However, it really is the opposite effect! When your baby sleeps well and is fully rested, they will be happier and more engaged with you during the day! In return, parents that also wake up fully rested will be more patient and present with their babies, which in turn leads to them being able to more fully enjoy and appreciate the sweet moments with baby!

How long will it take to sleep train my baby?

Since each child is unique and this is not a "one size fits all" approach, this question will not have a set in stone answer. While one child may start out strong and see progress on night one, another one might take three to four nights to adjust to this new routine. As long as we stay consistent with the support, the progress of your child will be measured at the pace that you as parents feel comfortable with.

Why should I hire a sleep consultant?

When you hire a sleep consultant, you are not getting the same impersonal approach and schedule that you would with an app or through Google. You are getting personalized support and a customized sleep plan based on your child's needs along with the approach you want to take as parents. But the most important point is that I am with you every step of the way and you are not alone in this! I will be fully available throughout our time together to guide you with compassion and encouragement. Having that close support is what most families attribute to seeing faster and long lasting results, making it feel a little less overwhelming than it otherwise would have.
